The Attraction

So Cadbury World is a self-guided tour, with different area for you to explore. You enter into a Aztec Jungle where you find out how the cocoa tree was central to their culture. You then enter a recreation of Bull Street, Birmingham. This is the home of the first cadbury shop. You then enter a cinema where you watch the beginnings of the company, and the culture they wanted to enshrine like the village of the Bourneville and company benefits. The next cinema shows the technique the company uses to make their famous Dairy Milk product.

After this you enter the factory part of the tour. You get the opportunity to write your name in chocolate and even taste melted chocolate with 2 toppings of your choice! The main part of the this area is the Cadabra ride! A 4 min ride through the world of the cadbury cocoa bean!

The tour ends in the advertisement area where you get to see classic Cadbury adverts like the Coronation Street sponsorship and the famous Gorilla playing the drums.

You finish the tour in the worlds biggest Cadbury Shop!

Outside the factory there is 4D Freddo Frog Show, Play Area and the Bourneville Experience. This shows the history of the village of Bourneville.

There is also a Cafe with various chocolate items to eat, and various different deals you can have, You can book a character meet and greet meal for the kids"

My Thoughts

I have been several times before to Cadbury World, and not much has changed. In fact things have been removed. I feel once you enter the factory area it literally is just reading boards with information. Don't get me wrong they are really interesting but in the past you got to see the packaging area but that has been removed. I hope under new management we might get to see more of the actual chocolate making rather than boarding about chocolate making.

In the past you got free chocolate in several places around the tour, but that has been cut to only 3 bars (1 Dairy Milk, 1 Wispa, 1 Twirl) as you enter the tour.

It feels like round every corner they are trying to get more money out of you. Having your picture taken in front of a green screen or a picture taken on the ride!

I also feel some of the technology needs a bit of a update in the cinema scenes. Some of the speakers kept crackling and the projector actually blocked the view of John Cadbury face.

Cost

It cost me £19,95 online. This was the online price or it would have cost £21 online. I strongly advise to book online as you get a guaranteed time slot, rather than risking arriving and finding the day is booked up.

The prices in the shop were actually quite good considering the outlet store in Portsmouth is more expensive than my local supermarket. I managed to pick up a 850g bar for a £5 which i didn't think was bad.

If you like chocolate and Cadbury i would say visit. The history part of the tour is really interesting, and the Cadabra ride just puts a smile on your face.

It will be interesting to see how Merlin Entertainment will update this attraction in the future!
