Fiesta of the Dead

Updated: Nov 5, 2023

24th October 2023, Blackgang Chine, IOW

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I had a blast at Blackgang's halloween event this year! It was my first time going since 2018 and they really stepped up their game. The fun began at 5pm, when the gate keeper greeted everyone at the entrance to Chocobloc Lawn and got everyone ready for some spooky fun!

The lawn had been transformed with a stage underneath the bridge and giant skull next to it. There was already dancers in skeleton costumes and the Wandering Dead dancing to the resident DJ. Later in the evening the stage was home to the Electric Light Show!

The rest of the fun took place over the bridge on Rumpus Lawn and Cowboy Town. Rumpus Lawn was home to acrobats, a fortune teller and roasting marshmallows. This was different to the last time i visited when Rumpus Lawn was used as projections on the actual house.

The Mouth of Hell also had a halloween make-over. When you pressed the big red button, a special light show made the mouth look even more spooky than it already does!

The rest of the fun is in Cowboy Town with the area having a makeover. The stage was being used for a fire show. The mine on the cliff had a skull added and their outlets having a mexican food overlay. In the evening the area was home to a fire show, which was spectacular!

Throughout this wooded area of the chine, there was giant inflatable skulls scattered above the paths, with spooky music playing in the background.

The parks rides, except Shipwrecked, operated throughout the event. Extinction was amazing in the dark. Going upside, seeing the lights down the coast in the distance WOW! Evolution was particularly scary, feet dangling in the air, being able to see over the edge of cliff and hear the sea in the distance!

It was good to see other parts of the chine open as well. It has been a goal for me to see Restricted Area 5 and the Giant Bug Walk during the illuminations again. The T-Rex was even more terrifying in the dark. The Dodos still managed to put a mega smile on my face seeing them all illuminated!

It was shame Nurseryland and Underwater Kingdom was closed during the event though.

Blackgang's events are always amazing, but this is the best one i have ever attended. If you get a chance next year to visit during the halloween season, you will love it!
