Shaftsbury Theatre, London
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
*Spoiler Alert*!
Thought I would my first theatre review after visiting this show as it was so good! The sets, the cast, the story and the music all just perfect!
The different versions of the pop music are perfectly placed throughout the story, which means they don't feel forced into the show but actually push the story along. All the songs in the show are amazing but there is 2 standout songs which are Teenage Dream/Break Free and Roar Teenage Dream/Break Free is performed by Nurse and Lance (Francois's Dad) singing after spending the night together. Roar is performed at by Miriam-Teak Lee (Juliet) as the big finale song, which personally I feel is better than the original!
The use of William Shakespeares (Oliver Tompsett) and his wife, Anne Hathaway (Cassidy Janson), as join writers of the show, and having roles in the play is a fantastic choice. With William wanting to stick more to the original version and Anne wanting Juliet to decide on her future. It is Anne's decision to start the show with Juliet not killing herself after the death of Romeo
The show is based in Paris, where Juliet travels to after the events around Romeo. She travels with her friends April, May (Alex Thomas-Smith)and her Nurse. They arrive at a nightclub where Juliet falls for Francois (Tim Mahendran) they decide to get married to help each other overcome troubles with their parents. Juliet is unaware though of Francois kissing her friend May, which makes him struggle with his sexuality and the possible reaction of his father.
The Big twist before the interval is Romeo is back from the dead and wants to continue his marriage with Juliet. This causes her to have thoughts on both relationships.
Both storyline all comes into the spotlight during the wedding scene we're both of them have reasons not to marry each other.
Overall this show is one you must see!! You will come out the show smiling and humming the songs!! Can't wait to see the show again!!!!
