23rd November 2023, Milton Keynes theatre ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I went to see Noises Off at Milton Keynes Theatre with no knowledge of anything about the show and I have to say it was one of the funniest plays I've ever seen. The plot is about a group of actors who are rehearsing and performing a farce called Nothing On, and the hilarious mishaps that happen on and off stage. The play is divided into three acts, each showing a different performance of Nothing On, but with different levels of chaos and confusion.
The first act shows the final rehearsal, where the director is trying to fix the many problems with the cast and the set. It opens with Dotty getting her timing wrong with the many plates of sardines that are scattered around the set.
The second act shows a matinee performance, where the actors are feuding with each other and sabotaging the show. This act was different as well as there was very little dialect.
The third act shows a late-night performance at the final theatre on the tour, where everything goes wrong and the actors barely manage to finish the show in the correct order.
The play is full of slapstick comedy, witty dialogue, and clever timing. The cast is amazing, especially the actor who plays the burglar, who has to improvise most of his lines because he keeps forgetting them. The set is also impressive, as it rotates between acts to show the front and back of the stage.
If you're looking for a good laugh, I highly recommend Noises Off. It's a play that makes fun of plays, and it's a blast to watch.
