V&A Museum, 28th October 2022
⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is an amazing exhibit showcasing costumes and other behind the scenes parts of musicals!
You enter the exhibit to a costume from Disney's Lion King. You soon hear familiar snippets from many of the current and past west end show, i was humming along to Six! You then see an original Elphaba Costume from Wicked. There is also original promotional posters from The Wizard of Oz and original book of Wicked/
You then pass a model of the Parisian Set piece from & Juliet. Opposite is costumes from Moulin Rouge and Annie. You then see an actual Olaf Puppet from the Disney's Frozen musical.
You pass into another room with even more costumes, Catherine of Aragon from Six, Jamie from Everybody talking about Jamie, The famous bowler hat from Chicago and the red dress from Company! There is also a model of the famous boat set from Show Boat
There is also various promotional posters, and sketches from the making of the shows.
Throughout the exhibit there is plenty of information on each of the items, spent a good hour in the exhibit reading everything! It was also good the exhibit blended with their permanent theatre exhibit which also had even more models of sets, costumes and programs.
I have only 1 negative about the exhibit.
The first is the size. It fills 2 rooms of the top of the floor of the V&A. Its a shame there is such a small selection of shows, considering the amount of shows on at the moment and that have closed throughout history. I know it is a free exhibit, but if having more on show meant a small fee i would have happily paid!
2 highlights of the whole exhibit was seeing a Six costume up close, and one of the actual horse puppets from War Horse!
I would recommend going to see this exhibit, but either get to the museum when it first opens or an hour before closing as i don't feel it would be as good with crowds. I entered at 10am and was the only person in there!
The exhibit runs until 27th November 2023, free entry
