Shanklin Chine Illuminations

3rd October 2022, Shanklin, Isle of Wight

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Visited the Shanklin Chine Illuminations and there is only one word to describe it, breath-taking. I recommend entering from the Old Village entrance, as this offers the best first view, above the waterfall!

The staircase can be slightly slippery when wet but once you reach the bottom, wow the view that is waiting for you. The waterfall and the surrounding rock are illuminated in different colours, and it is just amazing!

The path then follows the course of the stream, through the illuminated woodland, You then get to a crossroads, with a path taking you to the cafe, shop and history centre, a path that carries on along the stream and a path that takes you to the viewpoint. I highly recommend going up to the viewpoint as it gives amazing views of the bay and the lights of the chine!

This route also gives you a glimpse of PLUTO! A WW2 pipeline that went from the Chine to France to supply troops with fuel.

The exit of the chine has a history exhibit, showing the history of the chine, as a visitor attraction, its role during the WW2 and the formation of the chine. There is also a cafe that has a deck with views across the chine and a small gift shop.

At the base of the chine is the Fisherman's Cottage pub that offers amazing views and food!

You do get 7 days free unlimited return with your ticket that enables you to see the chine in the daytime as well as the chine looks very different in the daytime!

The illuminations from entire season the chine is open so this plenty of opportunity to see this amazing sight!
