The Choir of Man

3rd December 2022, The Arts Theatre London

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was the third time i visited "The Jungle" after seeing the original run in late 2021. I discovered the show at West End Live 2021, and i instantly loved the show, the soundtrack even topped my Spotify Wrapped 2022!

The show takes place in the Arts Theatre, which is a small venue that offers the perfect setting for audience interaction, which the Choir of Man thrives on! Before the show you can even walk onto the stage for a free pint of beer, and interact with some of the cast

So the Choir of Man doesn't really a plot or story, but shows the different personalities of people you find in your local pub, like the Maestro, the Hardman and the Romantic for example. The setting of the show is a pub as its seen as place where men can show and talk about their feelings and emotions.

The entire show is narrated by The Poet who introduces the Choir members and their stories. Towards the end he tells the actual stories of the cast, and their actual hometowns and what they miss and their stories growing up. This part gets really emotional in parts.

The show uses well-known songs to intertwine with the stories of the members of the Choir. Songs such as 500 miles is performed by the Pianist. He tries to get do a slow version of the song, but the rest of the choir want to do the proper version with the audience singing along, and then physically force him to join in with the upbeat version. Another stand-out song was Escape, performed by The Bartender, who explains his relationship with his wife, while making a actual cocktail. Throughout this song there is a member of the audience on the stage, who gets to keep the cocktail at the end.

Towards the end of the show, the songs become more group numbers and emotional! like Some Nights, which has amazing choreography with pint glasses! You're the Voice starts of with a solo and builds towards the end to a group ending which for me personally was the performance of the whole show.

The very last song is an a Cappella version of Parting of the Glass. This was so emotional as you could tell they was singing from the heart, and showed how talented the entire cast was!

I dare anyone to come out of this show with a mega grin on their face. You laugh, cry and join in with the singing. As i said at the beginning at the review i have loved this show since 2021 and i cant wait to see this show grow bigger and bigger. It shares the same foundations of Six and hopefully The Choir of Man will grow the same!

The Choir of Man is running at The Arts Theatre London until May 2023, so grab a pint and have an amazing evening out!
