The commitments, Milton Keynes Theatre, 27th October 2022
✨✨✨✨
Storyline:
The Storyline is about the formation, rise and fall of a band called The Commitments.
Jimmy Rabbitte decides to help 2 of his mates create a band. He holds auditions for a leader singer, backing singers, drummer and bass. He meets Joey the Lips who used to work with bands as big as the Beatles! The rest of the first act of the show is the band rehearsing ready for their first performance at the local community centre. The first act ends with their first performance which is a success!
The second half of the show starts with the band on the rise, with more gigs, but their lead singer Deco is starting to get a tad big headed and thinking he is the band. The band starts to splinter with the girls starting to fall for Joey, and the shock news that Deco is trying out to be the Irish Eurovision entry.
After a performance a journalist tells Jimmy that he is friends with a record producer who would be happy to sign them up after seeing a performance They impress the producer but after speaking to him about the contract, he returns to the band but they have a massive fight and end the band.
Jimmy ends up by himself, and meets Joey as he is returning to the US. He gifts him his scooter. One of the backing singers, Imelda, appears asking about Joey. She then tells Jimmy she loves him!
Songs:
The musical uses soul music to tell the story. Songs such as: Knock on Wood, Proud Mary, Think and I'm a Midnight Mover. The show ends up with megamix of various songs, which is one of the best endings of a musical i have ever seen!
Seat:
Sat in Stalls MM1. Have sat in this row before but not this seat. It offers a uninterruptedview of the stage. Only tiny negative is, it being the end of the row is the constant standing up to let people out, but i would still recommend this seat. It is cheaper than the front row of the circle, which i cant work out as it almost has the same view!
Merchandise:
The only merchandise available at Milton Keynes Theatre was a in-house program. With information about the show and future shows performing at the theatre.
Final Thought:
This is the 2nd time have seen this show and it was still amazing. The sets, the songs, the cast all just perfect! If the show comes to a theatre near me again i will 100% be going!
The show is on tour around the UK until the 1st July 2023
