The Play that Goes Wrong

Updated: Sep 7, 2022

28th July 2022, Milton Keynes Theatre (spoiler free!)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This show is literally the funniest show i have seen, and was almost crying with laughter. The show is basically a classic murder "who done it" with a Mischief twist.

Even before the show, the cast are interacting with the audience, asking us to look for their missing dog Winston, and having a member of the audience on the stage helping fix the set!

The show is opened by Chris Bean, the director, who introduces the audience to the show, and describes some of the issues of previous productions the cast of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society have put on.

The production itself starts with Charles Haversham found dead on the shezlong. The other cast members entering the room. At this point different things start falling apart, like the door not opening, Florence being in the face with the door once it finally opens.

Inspector Carter, then has to try work out the killer by interviewing the other members. He asks Perkins and Thomas to carry the body to the study, by the body falls through the sling, which results in some hysterical scenes!

One of the funniest scenes is when the study floor collapsing, resulting in all the furniture sliding to the edge, with only Thomas holding onto them, without falling off himself.

I dont want to spoil to much of the funny scenes, as the surprises of what happens is just hysterical. The timings of each action must take for ever to get right.

This is the second time seeing this production, first time was in 2018, and it proves all the cast of Mischief Theatre are amazing

Seat:

Sat in Stalls MM7, MM8. The view was great. Could make out the facial expressions of the cast and the little details of the set.

Merchandise:

This show follows with the tradition of other Mischief Theatre productions and only having one program. Its a shame there is no fridge magnets, or a picture book to have a memory of the visit.

Final Thought:

This is another amazing production from Mischief. If you want to laugh for the entire 2 hours then this is the show for you. If this shows comes to a theatre near you, or you are in the West End go and see it!!
