Disney's The Lion King, The Lyceum Theatre London
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am a mega fan of the original 1994 film and the recent live action film, so know the songs and story well but this version has got to be the best one!
The way the story is told with the cast and use of puppetry is just outstanding! The Timon puppet and Timon costume so realistic that you actually forget you can see the actor on stage as well. The use of a mixture and masks to portray the adult lions! The opening of the show, Circle of Life, shows of the use of puppets and costumes brilliantly with the entire stage filled with animals from giraffes to rhinos, who enter from the back of the stalls past the audience!
The scenery is breathtaking! I was wondering how they would pull of the wildebeest stampede scene, but they managed it! Using force perspective with smaller wilderbeest on a roller at the back, medium sized wildebeest in the middle and actors at the front it gave the feeling of a actual stampede! The ending of the scene was still managed to make me cry with the death of Mufasa and Simba being blamed by Scar!
The musical uses all the classic songs from the films, like Circle of Life, I Just cant wait to be King and Hakuna Matata, but also has a few new songs that feel like they should be in the films, such as Endless Night and The Shadowland!
Overall i would highly recommend going to see this show if you love Disney, The Lion King or just musical theatre! You will leave the theatre with a mega mega grin on your face!
